How to take good care of yourself
Taking good care of our physical health is of ultimate importance we need it to take us through our lifetime and to serve us well. Sadly many of us tend to pay little regard to our general health and wellness until we don’t have it. To avoid neglecting yourself you need a self care action plan!
If you purchased a new car the chances are you’d take care of it. You’d take it for servicing, clean and polish it and do your best to keep it in top shape and working order. And you wouldn’t dream of running it into the ground from neglect.
You and your body are far more important than a piece of machinery, so don’t run it into the ground either!
Self care management
Most of us know we need to be eating a healthy diet, and we also require regular exercise and adequate sleep. In order to be at our best we should really create and follow a self-care regimen on an ongoing basis.
Self care is taking care of yourself which doesn’t mean that you’re being selfish or self indulgent. It making and taking time during the day to take care of yourself. Unfortunately many people are still of the mindset that self care is a selfish act.
Take care of yourself first
Our lifetime is limited and we are responsible for our own health and well being and it’ something we should take lightly. Many of us spend much of our time responding to the needs of others. And yet who takes care of us? Ultimately we are responsible for our own bodies?
Our senior year come around way faster than we’d ever imagine they would, before we know it another decade has gone by in a flash. And most of us end up wishing we had taken better care of ourselves as we feel the consequences later on.
What is your body telling you
If you know you’re not already taking good care of yourself don’t you think it’s high time we do? It’s time to spend some quality time taking proper care of these bodies of ours.
It’s important to listen to your body. Once you’re in tune with it, it’ll tell you what it needs if you pay attention. We’ve established that physical exercise and proper nutrition are important for obvious reasons. Self-care isn’t simply about the outside.
We notice more aches and pains as we age or are really physically active, often these can be remedied with stretching exercises, yoga and Pilates are especially beneficial. Practice self-care from inside and out
Can stress cause digestive problems
Digestive issues are common and caused for a number of reason they might benefit from dietary cleanses. Also stress is a common for poor digestion. Your body gives you the signs and symptoms, it’s your job to provide the solutions.
There are other times when issues are more serious and problematic that you need the trained professionals. But the fact is there are many things we can contribute to prevention and curing more common complaints.
The power of your mind
The mind is truly amazing and it’s important to understand that we are capable of way more than we give ourselves credit for. We can actually control the way we think!
So if you want to be happier and healthier be sure to think positive. As when you do you’ll be in a positive frame of mind and feel good. Think negative and all you’ll experience is negativity and feel bad. Really pay attention to this as it’s one of the most important things you can learn and do for yourself, it should definitely be part of your self care action plan.
Become more mindful
Be more “Mindful” this may seem to be just a buzzword but the interest in mindfulness is increasing as well it should. Know your Why! Why is it important to take better care of yourself. Why is it important to maintain good health and mobility.
Maybe you want to do some traveling, go on a safari, a ski vacation, or a hiking holiday. Maybe you have a physical job or maybe you just want to be able to play with your grand-kids. And when you feel your motivation flagging remind yourself of the reasons. Your WHY will keep you going!
Don’t fight and resist things, take your time and enjoy the moment.
Take pride in yourself
The human body is pretty incredible. The way everything is in sync and works without any instructions from us. It fights off bad bacteria, is always regenerating, and then there’s our amazing brain which we will probably never totally understand.
We have the potential to live a long, fulfilling and purpose-driven life and our body is supposed to last us an entire lifetime. We should do our part to appreciate and take care of these incredible machines!
There will always be setbacks along the way, that’s life. But remember this is the only body you’re going to get so take care of it!! Focus on your own self care !
Self-Care Ideas for a Healthy Body
Here are some simple self-care action plan ideas to incorporate even on the busiest of schedules. Be sure to make time for you!
- Meditation, Pilates, Yoga, Tai chi or stretching exercises
- Fitness classes; dancing, swimming, weights, kickboxing or aerobics etc.
- Eat some greens and other fruit and vegetables every day
- Eat a meal with some protein every day
- Keep Hydrated by drinking adequate water.
- Walk, jog or run, hike or ride a bike
- send quiet time preferably in nature
- Deep breathing exercises
- Get a massage
- Play a team sport; tennis, soccer, softball, etc.
- Try something you’ve never tried before; an activity like rock climbing, kayaking, paddle boarding, or surfing etc.
Living a healthier life
It’s a fact that even the simple things such as drinking enough water during the day are considered part of self-care. And you’re probably already doing some of these things on the list. So by adding another thing each day or even weekly it’s going to contribute to you living a healthier life.
Self-care for the body and the mind doesn’t have to take a lot of time. A number of the suggestions above only take a few minutes. But we’re experts at making excuses which impedes our progress. And one of the most common excuse is not enough time.
But let’s face it most can find time for Facebook, and youtube, etc so make time for working on your important self-care action plan. It will be worth the effort!
