Your Alternative Retirement Plan

Do you have an alternative Retirement Plan set up?

Seniors making ends meet Are you in turmoil about your future and what will happen in your retirement years? When your retiring options becoming fewer by the day it’s no wonder so many seniors are confused and worried about what their future holds. By this time of life what you really hope for is peace of mind, time for relaxation and some fun, not to be burdened with worrying if you can afford to even live into old age.  Retirement is not for everyone but for those that look forward to it they should be able to maintain a decent llevel of lifestyle and not have to live like a pauper.

Financial concerns getting you down?

If you already know that you don’t have enough funds to carry you through you’re bound to spend more than a few sleepless nights wondering how you can make up the financial short fall. And if you are fortunate to still have a job and are healthy enough to continue to work, will you end up really having to work till you drop whether you want to or not?

Can you fulfill your retirement dreams ?

Many seniors have looked forward to their retirement to finally fulfill some of their own hopes and dreams, to do some of the things that they haven’t been able to do while they were committed to raising families and had work responsibilities. On a positive note many of today’s seniors are very active and in good health, they want to have an active retirement,  they’re open and ready to experience new adventure now that they do have the time.  It’s a fact that not everyone expects or wants a lot out of life, and when they get older it doesn’t change much for them, especially the desire for excitement.  Some seniors are actually content to sit back and relax a bit, watch TV, do some reading and other than the bare essentials, little else is needed for the rest of their life. The big question is “What do you want?”

Good health means a lot!

Regardless of anything else you may want out of life I do believe that everyone wants to be healthy, and yet we know that health challenges are most likely to burden us the older we get. Joints wear out, knee and hip replacements are common among the aging, foot problems are much more common over the age of 60, each one of these issues can certainly cramp your style and affect your activity level. There are numerous health issues that can arise so health care is always a concern, and finding the best care can be very costly which causes a lot of extra stress for retirees that don’t have adequate medical insurance.

own health is the place to start.  You have to weigh out all the options open to you because health is so important and living in the US has its drawbacks, especially when it comes to affordable health care. It’s at the top of many people’s list of concerns and one of the biggest expenses. So much so that many choose to move to a country that offers good health care at an affordable price or at least forced to seek affordable healthcare in other countries.

Would you consider living in another country?

There are a number of reasons why people choose to move to another country to live out their retirement but one of the main reasons is affordability and being able to have a better quality of life. It’s always a huge decision to make a move like this as most of us do have family and friends that they will be leaving behind, but often the benefits outweigh the negatives. And a big plus is that in this day and age technology has made it simple and affordable to stay in touch with family and friends wherever you are in the world.  Travel has become a part of most people’s lives so family and friends often take advantage of being able to visit for their vacation.

Have you watched your savings evaporate?

So many people have forcing them to take a good look at what options are available to them and just how far they are prepared to go to maintain a decent standard of living. Nothing is perfect, no place is perfect, there are always sacrifices to make so you have to consider what you can live with.  Weigh up the pros and cons.

When your social security check no longer covers the basics

Many thousands have already made the choice of moving to another country whether it’s full or part time because they’ve discovered among other things that Social security no longer covers the basics and something had to change. Moving to another country isn’t for everyone so if you know it’s not for you look for other options. How much more can you downsize and cut back?

Finding The Right Hobby Can Change Your Life

  1. Hi Shirley
I am new to LifeByDesignOver50.com but since discovering the site recently I have enjoyed reading the comments and find the topics really interesting and relevant to my situation.
Retirement and the prospect of what to do in retirement has been occupying my mind for sometime. The main issues have been:
a)maintaining a lifestyle I have grown used to
b)creating additional income to support that lifestyle c)indulging my love of travel
d)maintaining a relevance in the world of 2013 and beyond and
    e)continuing to have fun
I didn’t think that was asking too much after many years of work. But its taken me a long time to find something to do in retirement which serves all those needs and I am thrilled that I have an answer and wanted to share it if I may.

I’m a Baby Boomer as I guess most on this site are. Computers and the web etc were unheard of in my early years. Now they are as common as muck. We have all learned that to be relevant and a contributing member of society we had better get with it and most have. But how does that address the issues important to me?

I am now in the business of running an internet business from my home and I’m having a ball. Making money and travelling. And I really don’t work that hard or long. Admittedly, it took me two years to find this opportunity but I am very glad I persisted.

It may sound strange, but I love work. I just didn’t want to have to do it just to get by. I now work by choice when I want to and I make a very considerable income. Most importantly, I love what I do and I get to indulge my passion for travel.

This opportunity I have discovered has given me a whole new life. I know it’s inappropriate to directly promote my business here and I respect that so no embedded contact details or ads etc but I would love to share it with as many of my contemporaries as possible. I control what I do. I run my own little business from home with a laptop but I could run it and do run it, when travelling, from anywhere in the world. All I need is an internet connection. My capital outlay was small. I carry no stock. I pay no wages other than my own and I work when I want to. I know. I know. Sounds to good to be true and as the old saying goes ……… But it is true.

I may be getting older but I am also getting better.

I recommend to all my contemporaries “embrace the new technologies. Earning money in retirement and/or in pre retirement is not that hard. You just have to find the right opportunity to apply the hard won experience we all have gained over the years. Once you do, look out world!

Cheers and best wishes to All

  2. It was really good to hear from you Bob and I am so glad that things are working out for you. Sometimes things are a blessing in disguise. Disappointment can turn to triumph. We’ll find that better opportunities come our way if we are open to them. Older and wiser is the key and then to use that wisdom. Just don’t waste time doing things that make you unhappy and find things that do.
I appreciate you sharing and love to hear back on how your doing. All the best to you…Shirley
