What it does mean is that you can find new ways to become thriftier and save money to be spent on other things. Take advantage of the things closest to you when vacationing instead of traveling farther distances.
Instead of taking that vacation to one of the coastlines or mountain ranges, why not save the money ordinarily spent and deviate from your usual vacation spot? Be a tourist in your own hometown. We often become so accustomed to the things around us we don’t even see the exceptional things right under our noses.Spend less and visit flea markets, yard and garage sales, or crafts and arts shows in your own area to buy those souvenirs. If you enjoy the outdoors, go camping, go for a hike or bike ride in the country and discover those things you did as a child growing up. Bring binoculars and view the vast array of birds; go for a picnic in the park; or find a quaint, out-of-the-way café to sit leisurely sipping your favorite coffee or tea flavor.
If you’re a sports-minded person, enjoy your favorite baseball or football team by attending a game in person; play a round of golf, go fishing, or visit the beach for a swim.
A trip to the state fair was always exciting as a child. Wander among the displays and taste the cotton candy and elephant ears, or take a long overdue ride on the Ferris wheel. Antique shops are a wonderful place to meander through. You’ll be amazed at how the memories flood back to an easier and simpler time. They’re also a great place to save money since most dealers expect to negotiate the price of an item.
One of the best parts of it all is being able to return to your own home to grill your favorite meal and sleep in your own bed. You really will have the comforts of home on your very special vacation. So become a little more near-sighted, save money from the airline tickets or gas, and enjoy where you live. Think of all that you’re missing right in your own backyard! After all, don’t others save and make plans to visit your hometown on their vacation?
