To Good Health in Your New Year

It’s the end of another year and I have to admit that I haven’t done a number of the things that I intended to do this year. Even though I know the value of having a somewhat balanced life I have not followed my own advice this past year. Some years work out better than others, especially when we pay attention to what we are doing.

I constantly tell the people that I work with that it’s important to have balance in life, to make sure that they take care of the their health, eat well, exercise, participate in life, have hobbies and interests, continued education, spirituality, enjoy family and friends, have fun, and take care of their finances.

Well, I did some of the things that I suggest above, however, if I were to give myself a score it would have to be 4 out of 10, that’s pretty poor. I spent so much time sitting in front of my computer working day after day for way to many hours that I neglected my own health and fitness. It’s so easy to do this and it doesn’t take long for it to become a habit. I’m by no means an exercise fanatic but I do know it’s important to keep moving. Even many of the usual everyday activities that seemed to have helped to keep me fit in the past came to a halt.

There was a time not too long ago when I would go dancing three times a week. I didn’t realize then how much difference that made to my fitness level. Then to become so inactive for most of the year it’s amazing how different it can make you feel, and not in a good way. Without activity it doesn’t take long to lose your muscle tone and find that your stamina is just about zero. Read More→

There is nothing more relaxing than a home that is peaceful, beautiful, with the right ambiance. Well, most people’s aim to make their home functional, yet elegant, and their own special place.

After a stressful day at work, you need to be able to relax in your own home, and that’s difficult to do if your living space is in disarray and messy.  It’s difficult to relax when chaos surrounds you.

Most of us strive toward creating a relaxing environment for ourselves and families. After all-There’s no place like home, is there?

Many people have a flair for decorating their home. They have a great eye for color and design.  They have specific requirements when it comes to choosing furniture and accents for their home, whether it be eclectic, traditional, or ultra modern. They find ways to make their home reflect their own personalities. They usually have no problem in making their home appealing and relaxing.

For others trying to visualize what is possible is a real challenge. No matter how together and organized we are in other areas of our life, we have no ideas of what should go with what. Read More→

Both cardiovascular and aerobic exercise is important. Aerobic exercise is instrumental in the prevention of Type 2 diabetes, while reducing cholesterol. With all of these activities, it is important to be in tune to what your body tells you. If there is anything you are concerned about – talk to your doctor first. Don’t forget – the hardest part of any exercise regimen is the first couple of weeks. Once you choose something that you think will be a good fit for you, stick to that routine, and before you know it you will have a new and healthy habit.

Not only does getting and staying fit help your physical health, but it can have wonderful benefits to your mental health as well. The mind-body connection is strong, so prepare to reap the benefits of a regular exercise routine – more energy, better sleep, and it’s a great way to ward off depression. Staying active makes for a healthy person, from the inside out.  Exercise lowers stress hormones and increases endorphins, which are your natural ‘feel good’ chemicals. As they’re released during exercise, you get the benefit of having your mood boosted in a natural way.  Exercise also helps your body to release adrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine, which also help you feel good. When you reach your 50s, there will be some changes in your day to day routine. Sometimes, the active lifestyle that you used to have slows down a bit. But there are several ways for you to adjust positively and still be able to live to the fullest. For instance, you can certainly involve yourself in several recreational and social activities.

RVs symbolize mobility and belongingness at the same time. You can keep yourself mobile and be almost always on the go. This is the reason why recreational vehicles, also known as RVs, have gained popularity among this age group especially among retirees.

These vehicles have many uses from short relaxation and leisure activities like camping, road trip and vacations, to full-time living. Usually, those that live in their RV’s full or part time stay in special residential trailer parks. These can be found in both in tourist areas and sometimes big cities. Besides owning one, an RV can also be rented.

The lifestyle of recreational vehicle users is called by several people as H.O.W or “Houses on Wheels”. The term is especially labeled among full-timers, though it can be also used among vacationers on wheels. Snow birding is done by travelers to escape from the freezing winter by traveling south to warmer places. They travel back home after the cold season is over.

In North America, the word recreational vehicle usually refers to an automobile that has home amenities – from the kitchen, to the living room, to the bathroom, and of course the bedroom. They are also occasionally used as mobile offices for businessmen and it has certain specifications like a desk space, a generator, an improved electrical system and wireless Internet. In Australia, travelers take a trip north in winter using a recreational vehicle to experience a warmer weather and then go back south for at the start of spring until summer. There are also “modern grey nomads” who continuously travel with an RV around the country that have already sold their traditional homes. Read More→

margaritas and yet it can be rather difficult to choose a hotel that will give you the level of quality you are expecting.

There are literally thousands of hotels in Mexico and just like in other developing countries; there are so many different types of properties you can choose from. The drawback is that the majority of these properties are imperfect in terms of contemporary conveniences they offer.

All the same, this may possibly be precisely what you are looking for! In any case, here are some tips that will come in handy if you want to get a quality hotel in Mexico. The first thing that will give you a headache is the hotel selection process. You will have to consider the amenities available, price and location of the hotel.

So, how can one go about choosing a hotel with the best amenities, good price and in a wonderful location?

Because the Internet has lots of information, it’s probably a good idea to start with an online search. There are a number of online travel reservation services that you can use to compare hotel amenities and prices. They may also have reviews of particular hotels.

Some individuals are obsessed with a particular hotel chain so it’s vital that you check their website first. They may have discount rates or special bonuses available. Hotels chains like Marriott usually do this. Read More→

Time Goes By!

By Shirley Price

The end of a year is almost upon us. It’s another year that seems to have flown by. I don’t know about you but the older I get the faster time seems to go by.  While the New Year is a time when many make New Year’s resolutions and set often meaningless goals for the coming year, for most of us they are goals soon forgotten.  I know I’ve done it myself on many occasions. The difference this year end is that it is also the end of a decade and we are soon to start another.

There is a lot to learn from looking back over the year just gone and see what you actually accomplished and what you are grateful for. Regardless of how good or bad it’s been we need to find things to be grateful for.  Often it can seem that it’s been quite uneventful but even in the uneventful years there are successes even if they are small and it’s good to acknowledge them.

I look back at this year and it’s been far from the most eventful year in my life. In many ways it would be looked at as quite boring but boring is good compared to a really bad year. Other than a few days in Chicago earlier in the year I haven’t been very far from home.  But I’ve been learning a totally new skill for me and I’m amazed at just how far I’ve come with it.  Yes, there’s still a way to go but if someone had said to me even a year ago that I would learn this I would have said no way.  We had a beautiful summer and I live in a lovely area so those are a couple of the things that I am grateful for.

We all have years that we recall with a smile and there are the years that when we think back we recall with tears. So how has your year been and more important how has your decade been?  Read More→

With few exceptions, marriage can invite tribulations especially when neither of the partners is willing to give way. Traits can play an important role in the outcome of marriage. If either of the couple is extremely forgiving and understanding, problems that often make a marriage start to falter, or any relationship for that matter, can usually be resolved.

Nonetheless, if the circumstances have become repetitive and the manner of resolving the issues have  only made matters worse, then being forgiving or understanding is not enough. 10 tips are provided in this article to help couples improve their relationship chances.

1. Do something new. It need not always be a major activity. Sometimes, even a simple note of thanks or expression of endearment such as “take care” “see you tonight” may surprise your partner and sets a different atmosphere or mood. At times, going out on a walk or watching a movie together can be a good bonding opportunity.

2. Plan a getaway vacation. Some time spent with your partner in another environment can help ease the tension. In fact, it can be a great way to express your love for your partner especially when you are away from pressures from your respective career, friends, family, children and domestic concerns.
